“I didn’t promise anything to Jake,” Van Wagenen said of an extension or trade, which he demanded of the Mets in July. “What I can say, regardless who the player is who we want and who are part of the solutions, we need to figure out how to keep them. We need to figure who doesn’t fit into what we need to accomplish and we need to find a way to convert those guys into other assets. Right now, I want to identify who the great players are.
